Growing up, I split my life up between the suburbs of Philadelphia and Avalon, New Jersey, where I spent my summers. For those of you who don’t know, Avalon is a sleepy town by South Jersey standards, with a nice beaches, good food, and a few select bars and lounges.
From the late 70’s my family has been a member of the Avalon Yacht Club located at the northern tip of Avalon. I spent many of summers of my youth learning how to sail all types of boats, with my favorite being my red white and blue Sunfish named Terror.
Last night a spent a nice evening with my family at the club. Of course, my night started with a perfect Manhattan made with Woodford Reserve. Wow, did this one hit the spot. It was made exactly right. Crystal clear bourbon that was not shaken. Two bright red Maraschino cherries waiting for me at the bottom.
