Discovering Nate Burbeck

Living in New York City has given me numerous opportunities to wander around art galleries and discover many new artists. One such artist whose paintings seem to always creep into my mind, are the painting of Nate Burbeck. I first wandered into the Anna Zorina Gallery  one afternoon, not really paying attention to what the gallery was showing. I had visited several other galleries that day and for some reason I decided to enter this one. When I walked in I immediately noticed the large panoramic painting on the wall. At first it appeared to be a simple picture of a suburban neighborhood with children playing but the longer I looked at it, the more surreal it became. Something about the children in the painting didn’t feel right. Looking around I noticed that all of his paintings were of scenes of American life and all of them had surreal or dreamlike qualities to them.
